Could you start with a brief self-introduction?
Nice to meet you! My name is Sota Ammae.
I’m now in my seventh year as a personal trainer.”
What inspired you to become a personal trainer?
It all started in high school when I began training to improve my performance in baseball.
Later, I became fascinated by bodybuilding competitions and felt a strong urge to compete myself.
Around that time, seeing someone I admired succeeding as a trainer really pushed me to pursue this career path.

What sets your approach apart from other trainers?
I make it a rule to practice what I preach. I test every piece of knowledge and every workout on myself first to deepen my understanding.
Beyond just following a routine, I use my experience to ensure every session has a clear purpose tailored to the client’s goals and physical condition.
What kind of fitness concerns are you best at handling?
My ideal is to be a trainer who can support clients in every aspect of fitness.
Since many of my past clients focused on weight loss, I’m particularly confident in my ‘toolkit’ for dieting and body transformation.
How do you build trust with your clients?
Above all, through courtesy and attentiveness.
I strive to ensure there is no gap between the client’s goals and my proposals, so they can feel confident saying, ‘I want to leave it to this person.’
Providing training and advice backed by solid reasoning and clear intent is the foundation of that trust.
When do you feel most rewarded in this job?
I feel a deep sense of fulfillment when a client places their trust in me, or when they express their gratitude after seeing results they are happy with.
Is there a specific client story that stands out to you?
One client who was preparing for her wedding really left an impression.
Initially, we didn’t have a fixed trainer system, but after our first session, she requested me specifically.
At the start, she struggled so much she would cry or feel like quitting, but she kept pushing until the end.
On her wedding day, she sent me a photo and a message saying, ‘I was able to welcome this day in the best shape of my life.’ I still remember that moment clearly.
On Bodybuilding Competitions

Why did you decide to compete in body transformation stages?
Competing was actually my original motivation for becoming a trainer. I’ve always wanted to be on that stage, and I plan to continue competing in the future.
How has competing changed your perspective as a trainer?
Experiencing it firsthand—not just the training and diet, but also managing sleep and stress—gave me deeper insights and practical solutions.
I feel the quality of the advice I offer my clients has improved significantly because of it.
What can you teach clients specifically because of your competition experience?
That there’s a limit to how much you can achieve through sheer willpower alone.
I can share the importance of approaching fitness healthily and provide the specific knowledge to make that happen.

How do you spend your days off?
I enjoy going out, but I also spend a lot of time watching K-dramas, anime, and movies.

People are often surprised to find out that I have very neat handwriting and that I’m quite meticulous and methodical!
